How to Build Portfolio Evidence Before You Have Clients

A portfolio does not have to begin with paid client work. It can begin with carefully designed practice. Choose a realistic problem and create a result that another person can inspect. A designer can redesign a public information page, a marketer can build a campaign brief for a fictional local business, and a data learner can analyse a public dataset.nnShow process as well as polish. Include the brief, assumptions, first version, feedback or self-review, and the improved version. This makes the work more credible than a screenshot with no context. Never present fictional work as a real client project. Label it clearly as a practice, concept or self-directed project.nnQuality matters more than quantity. Three well-explained projects that demonstrate different decisions are usually more useful than twenty unfinished examples.
